New piece to my Davidson No. 269 vaseline collection
« on: March 20, 2007, 11:42:44 PM »
Hello all
I just recently got a new piece to add to my Davidson No. 269 suite collection.  It is the oval bowl on the right side.  The frame came from a clear version of this pattern and I added the vaseline bowl.  The center bowl?  the silverplate/chrome ring is attached to the bottom of the bowl.

p.s.  I am still looking for a piece in this pattern with an opalescent rim.  I know they exist, as I have a photo of one of the small round bowls, but so far, none have surfaced on ebay or other markets. The hunt goes on!

Hey, I think my mothe had some Davidson glass. Not vaseline, but I know she had a bowl just like these (on the left and right) The silver holder was a little different, but I vividly remember the bowl and the spoon hanging down. Hmmm, wonder what happened to it when the evil step-mother came into our lives. Used to use it for cranberry sauce whenever we had turkey  ;D

Beryl, If you spot any 269 in Oz look at it really carefully... but read these earlier topics first to find out why...

Hi Anne,
Yes, I remember reading that post, but now it is in the fore of my mind again.
We seem to have a massive amount of Modern Chinese glass turning up here in Australia. All we can do is learn as much as we can and share our knowledge.
Thanks for the reminder
Beryl

Hi,
I have not got a 269 piece in Pearline, but have an equally rare piece in Jade.

Also have a 269 bowl in Amberina, but I'm coming to the conclusion that it may not be a Davidson piece.

Regards

Chris

Yup, but I had already found my prince charming. Shoe wouldn't have fit anyways. I have very small feet  ;)  :) The woman in question married my dad, when he was still crazy with loneliness, convinced him a few years later to move to Florida and that they should sell everything. Just after they found out that the move would not be able to go forward, he was killed in a vehicle collision. But everything was gone, leaving us with no parents, no family belongings and she dropped us like hot potatoes, so not even an evil step mother!

Oh I am so jealous, Dave. I have never seen a vaseline 269 bowl "in the flesh"(nor pearline). This would have to be one of my favourite patterns (childhood memories of my Nanna's place). I would give my right arm for one in vaseline but I don't think the smart UK collectors let them out of the country!!

Chris, I have seen an amberina one. Can I ask why you feel yours might not be Davidson? Is it just yours or amberina in general? Just trying to learn so I don't get burned  ;)

Do either of you have your collections on the net so I may have a look and drool?
Dee

I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life.     A Brand

DEE
Here is a peek at about 1/2 of my collection.  There are 3 or 4 pieces in the photo that are not uranium/vaseline glass.  The rest all glow under a UV blacklight.

Hi Dee,

There are two reasons why I think my Amberina 269 bowl is not by Davidson. Firstly all other examples of the 269 pattern have a toothed decorative band on either side of the prunts. This bowl only has one. Secondly The angle of the prunts with respect to the body of the piece is different. On other 269 examples the prunts are almost perpendicular to the surface. On the amberina example they are at much more of an angle.

I have seen one other exmple of Davidson amberina (Bernard can you remember what style it was?), so I do think Davidson did some experimentation, most likely post war.

Regards
