Second-hand glass making equipment
« on: April 13, 2007, 08:43:37 PM »
Hi,
So where does one find good equipment, is there much?
Sure some items you can make yourself, but furnaces, lehrs etc?
Thanks in advance for suggestions,
Regards,
Marcus

Marcus, I noticed that the link Sue posted earlier in the Cafe has a lot of glass making equipment suppliers listed (see left hand menu near the bottom or use the search box to look for lehr, furnace etc.)  Hope this helps. :) http://www.worldartglass.com/

There is an ad for the contents of a hot glass studio here. Once a glass studio has been dismantled.....as with everything, caveat emptor.  :)

Thank you both for the information.
I'm trying to evaluate costs, etc, but the furnace may well be completely experimental.
The French seem to be very experienced in modern combustion technologies, using bio-fuels,
and I hope to be able to build a furnace (using some of that technology), that can be fired by wood from sustainable sources.
Sourcing refractory materials should not be a problem, as locally we have a village of small potteries, who as a collective, have built a Japanese kiln for ceramics, also wood-fired.
Regards,
Marcus
