Etched glass Goblet?? What is it?
« on: April 30, 2007, 01:49:12 PM »
I picked this goblet up at a thrift store thinking it looked really neat. I am wondering if anyone knows what it's age might be or the maker.. I hope the pictures show the pattern well, it's really cool! The pattern is etched in the glass, not printed... Thanks'ya!!

Sarsi, A good place to start would be Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era by Florence. Almost all the major companies did this sort of thing which is called a plate etching. Some of them are highly collectable, mostly from people trying to replace pieces to a set. Replacement Ltd. is also a good resource.
The patterns can be very busy and without a really good pic, its hard to tell.
Hope this helps, Terry

Might be etched but it is still printed, probably transfer (decal in US) print - think ink is an etchant. Your images are too dark and too small to say more.

Thank you Glasswizard and Frank! I will look into what you've said. I did a rubbing and am planning on sending it into Replacement, Ltd., so hopefully I'll get some info that way. Thanks again!!

I don't know the answer to this one but it looks as if there is a Cardinal lurking in the design.  In an etched stem, this should mean something to someone - but I don't know who!  It isn't the Early American Pattern Glass Cardinal from Ohio Glass.  Did you know the Replacements firm have authored a book called "Crystal Stemware Identification Guide" by Bob Page - maybe your library can get it?
