The PCC has worldwide membership although activities are primarily UK-based. The club has face-to-face, postal and web communications.
Most of the club meetings are held in Cambridge city (which is where it all started many years ago), but a regular regional meeting is held at Godstone, Surrey and the South West area is having its second meeting in June.
All meetings have a themed presentation / discusssion, often with a paperweight maker as the guest speaker. As Leni says, we are looking forward to listening to Sibylle Jargstorf, renowned researcher and author on European weights. Other speakers have included such as Simon Cottle (his second mention on the Glass Message Board in a few days
) who enlightened us with details on the well-known (in paperweight circles) Batiste collection that was auctioned through Sotheyby's. Sometimes the speaker is one of the club members who covers a theme that they have specialised in. Sometimes there is an Id Panel meeting where presumed experts can be proved to be just as confused as the rest of the membership.
Every so often, there is an organised trip to places like Murano or the former Bohemian / Silesian areas. Another regular feature is a triennial exhibition. The last one (in 2002) was held within the 3-day Nov / Dec NEC Antiques Fair, where over 1,000 "collector category" weights and related items were shown. In August, there will be a 1-day exhibition at Broadfield House Glass Museum, following a very successful similar event last year.
Oh yes ... and also mentioned by Leni is the club newsletter. This is issued three times per year and is a full colour production with all sorts of articles that cover all sorts of views on the whole area of glass paperweight collecting.
