Cut Deco Vase..Moser/Orrefors??
« on: July 02, 2007, 06:33:50 PM »
Hello glass friends,

My first post so please be gentle..... ;) I've been researching this piece for too long now and am hoping someone will just recognise it straight away so here goes....

Heavy cut sided (10 sides) green/black smoked glass vase with fluted rim, polished base with expected wear 12.5cm (5in) high, 18cm (7in) diameter at rim.

It's a nice quality piece that feels 20s-40s and reminicent of Orrefors or Moser, but my area is really 1950s + so please help if you can....

top view....    http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-7719

base.......      http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-7718

Many more from the over-sized mystery boxes to come.

Martyn.

I would think Bohemian for this. The style, the color leads one to Bohemia and I would think pre war. As to stating categorically that it is Moser, well so much research has been done and is ongoing it is now known that others produced this type of ware. This is of course my humble opinion and someone else with more knowledge may come along.
Terry

Thanks Terry,

My knowledge of Bohemian pre-war glass is virtually non existant so I chose Moser as a generic name I knew, I've had a not dissimilar (marked) 30s Orrefors vase in the past, but am inclinded to agree that the colour of this is'nt quite right for them....

Hopefully someone has an old catalogue with the shape in....??

Martyn.

Looks like Moser did this color http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130125661167
I guess 1940's- early 50's. Ed.

Hello Ed,

On the face of it that looks a pretty good colour match.... love the description..

quote... "It is in very good condition with chips, cracks or staining to the interior. The base has surface scratches from when it has been placed upon a shelf."

Think I might have passed on that one   :)

I'm sticking to pre war based on the shape for now.

Hi again,

I've just been told this vase was designed by Alexander Pfohl for Josephinehutte....they sounded pretty confident but I cant find anything similar from a quick google search, just enamelled and fancy cut pieces...sorry to raise it again, what do people think?

here it is again to save the click...

Bingo methinks. It's Josephinenhutte with an umlaut (or Czech equivalent over the u). Very similar 1920s confirmed items in Collectible Bohemian Glass 1915-1945, Truitt and Truitt. Profile or broad facet cutting

Hmm, not sure ph is the correct spelling. Marcus, ph or f?
