Topic: Blue opaline covered sugar with dolphin feet

I have searched and searched for this amazing sugar bowl - I would expect it to be French or possibly German, but perhaps I am not putting the right things into Pressglas-Korrespondenz because I can't find anything even similar.  I can't find it in Pamela's site either.

Does anyone recognise it?

Valerysthal 'dauphine'  butter dish in bleu celeste. You should be able to find full details on Pamela' s site

Valerysthal made this and most likely, also Portieux, their sister company.  It appears in an old V catalog.  I see you are in London, so this is most likely an original that did not wander far from where it was made (relatively speaking).  However, if I found this in the USA, my first thought would be to see if it is a Westmoreland product, as Westmoreland copied it.  That mold later ended up with Summit glass co., which made it in a variety of colors (as did westmoreland).  There are subtle differences in size between the original and Valerysthal, and I am not up on my milk glass -- will let the experts in that field ask the questions regarding size, shape, what it has or doesnt have.  At least I gave you a direction.  there is a milk glass website that might be able to give you more info.  just do a google search for national milk glass collectors society.

Thank you both very much.  Ivo, I must have looked straight past it when I was on Pamela's site earlier! 

I was looking for a Portieux Chanteclerc there as well - I bet I have gone straight past that as well.....

Pamela, if you look in, would the pics of this and/or the Chanteclerc be of use to you for the gallery?

MrVaseline, I think it is more likely to be French, than US, it came with a lot of other European glass from that period. Also, I believe I read that the Westmoreland pieces are marked clearly Westmoreland?

By the way, here is a picture of the underside - there is some kind of staining to one of the feet, which is almost like a skin on the glass (or deterioration of the glass itself).  What could cause this kind of staining?

(seriously, no clue on that one, but could not resist my evil inner voice!)

I have also found it in the Bayer catalogue here on the Pressglas-Korrespondenz site, looks like all three factories may have been making the same designs.  Were they all linked as companies?  (the German is too difficult for me to work out the text associated with this), there is another article here that has a picture of the Meisenthal museum, showing the Dauphine on the third shelf down on page two.  But again, I can't read the associated text. 

And Google actually makes it worse in translation!!

Can somebody give me a rough precis?
