Topic: R. St. Clair

There is a weight on ebay right now:
                  200139217531
with a pontil stamp "R. ST. CLAIR".

Who was "R" ? Is that an early weight of Robert - later known as Bob St.Clair?

That one is unknown to me, so I wrote to Joe Rice. This is what he had to say:
"Andrew, the paperweight does not really look like a Bob St. Clair, but it could be. I do not recall the R. St. Clair stamp, but it is one with the letters indented, as you could see. I am curious about the "story" that usually goes along with such treasure. $40 plus is a little too high for me to purchase sight unseen. I do have several of Uncle Bob's stamps, and that is not one I have seen. If you learn anything new please let me know.

In looking at the pontial stamp the two "R's" do not look like they are the same. Maybe the first "R" is a "B" with a piece broken off the bottom of the "B" on the stamp?

 It coul be badly stampted or as you say the stamp itself could have a fault.  I would go with badly stamped, if the stamp was broken then surely there would be more examples and it would be known to whom to attribute this.
The other possibility is of course fake/rip off....from the manufacture side not the seller!!!

That is a possibility - but is a "B.St.Clair" stamp known to have been used? I have never seen one (which doesn't mean a lot) - only "Bob St.Clair" (and "Maude & Bob" of course).
