kosta vase lc 16 - lindstrand
« on: August 25, 2007, 05:40:25 PM »
Hello All :)

I just picked up this sweet little bottle/vase and was able to find out a bit about it but would be grateful for any info that anyone can add. What I know so far is that it was made by Vicke Linstrand for Kosta, it's "colora" and most likely made in the 50s. It's engraved on the base "lc 16". I have found online a vase very similar marked lc 17 but it was already sold so no valuation was available. It's 8" (20.5cm) tall and 3.5" (9cm) at it's widest point.

Thanks,

Bidda

Hi, what a fabulous find!  There's some more information on these vases here
http://www.freeformsusa.com/glass/lind1.htm

If you scroll down you'll see a blue Colora in a different shape from yours, but just underneath the blue one is a group of various size brown Colora vases the same shape as yours.  If it's an idea of value you're after there are prices on the site, however obviously bear in mind that these are retail prices.

Excellent piece:

A piece of LC 16 sold on Tradera (Swedish Ebay) for £150 in 2003
One of the Swedish auction houses sold an LC 16 in 2005 for £300
Finally, one sold on Ebay in Dec 2005 for $550

Market's a bit quiet at the moment, but £200+ is a reasonable price.

(this all assumes no chips/cracks)

Dear Pip and Taylog,

Thank you so much for your input. Wow, I must admit I'm very pleased. I bought it for $13 USD just because I thought it was pretty  :spls2:
It has no chips, fleabites, nicks or cracks anywhere. It does have a very tiny rough spot on the neck where it looks/feels like a bubble burst over one of the "threads", though. Any ideas on a more precise name (it appears that many shapes and techniques were called "colora") or date of production? In "Fifties Glass" by Pina (my most referred to glass book) it states "LC hand shaped colora. 1955/56 nos. 1-11" so might one reasonably assume that 16 was from the following year?

Collecting glass can be so much fun :)

Thanks again,

Bidda

Yes, Swedish Glass Factories production catalogues show LC 1-11 being designed in 1955/56. The later ones aren't there but its reasonable to assume that they were designed soon after.  If the "damage" was serious I'd not have expected them to have signed it - but these aren't common so I'd not expect it to greatly impact the price, if at all.

Enjoy.

Taylog,

Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the date and for your input regarding value.
