Hi Socs .... In this case, it was the glass, latticino, and centre cane. There are other identifying features as well for Chinese weights. Weights such as this were an attempt to imitate the beautiful antique French weights. Most of what i have learned has been from sites such as this, books, visiting dealer sites, and even looking at ebay. (Google Bob Hall Paperweights to see a Chinese pansy weight; I think the price will surprise you!). I know some of the China weights are scratched signed but couldn't say anymore than most likely pre-1950. As far as the scramble weights, and I have one myself, it's the clarity of the glass, the colors, and the canes. IMHO, there are some very nice Chinese weights out there, particularly the Chinese whites.
