Cazza — Don't forget that as well as the various glass categories there is an Ocean Liners category under collectables on both ebay.co.uk and ebay.com.   I will be interested to see how your lovely glasses perform.

Hi again
I have been sent this message regarding the glasses and wondered what you made of it please? Can you advise me please?

Hi there,
just trying to be helpful. I have quite a large collection of White Star Line glassware and have seen very much more. None of them have the "S" mark and all of them have the acid etched burgee in a prominent position.
I live 2 miles from the Redhouse Cone near Stourbridge where there are many pieces of White Star Line glassware on display. All of them match the ones I have, all have the acid etched burgee and non have the "s" mark. I do hope this is helpful. Indeed if I can be of any more help please do not hesitate to contact me.

Carol — Please advise your correspondant to look at the link below, as it could well be the same person:-

http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,16940.msg101485.html#msg101485

Also, I have taken a look at your eBay listing, and have several comments.

  • 1.  By extracting my material from its context and changing its sequence it no longer makes any sense.
  • 2.  It no longer has the protection of my copyright notice.
  • 3.  Nowhere did I suggest that your lovely glasses were sold on board the White Star line —  I merely stated that John Stonier & Co. of Liverpool were principal wholesalers to the shipping lines, including the White Star line —  quite different.

  • With material of this length and complexity it is much better to ask potential buyers to read the material for themselves and draw their own conclusions.

Much better to delete all those now meaningless extracts in your listing and replace them with something like:-

  • For more information on these lovely glasses, please read my original query on www.glassmessages.com at
     http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17542.0.html
and an informative discussion on the "=S=" mark at
     http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6156.0.html
My thanks to Bernard Cavalot and the other contributors to these topics for their help.

  • Finally, I am sure that the other contributors to these topics would agree with me that you should not use or link to any of this material if you wish to claim that these glasses were sold on board White Star liners.   Why do that?   They are just as romantic whatever liner they were sold on.
