Huge Swirly bowl maker unknown
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:47:48 PM »
Can anyone please identify the maker of this huge swirly bowl, it is totally clear and is picking up the colour from some ceramic vases closeby. It measures 30cms (12") across and 12cms deep.

I'm pretty sure it's Mikasa.

I'm pretty sure it's Mikasa.

Is Mikasa a modern American brand?  Excuse my ignorance but I've certainly never come across this brand in England and I'm wondering if it's likely that Kev would have come across it in Germany.

I think Mikasa is an importer to America, though I'm not sure. It looks like the bowl was actually made in Germany, and it's contemporary crystal. Here's one for example: http://www.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=1148438

Mikasa are a global blob... basically designers of MOR tableware that appeals to nice people... or as an advertising agency with 3d products... they own a lot of trade names and use Mikasa for everything that does not suit another name. They probably spend more on PR than design.

No doubt Walther Driburg requested anonymity ;)
