Roy — A nice find. I can't recall ever seeing an example of Sowerby's
Puss in a Boot, but there is just one photograph published in one of the early English pressed glass books, probably Lattimore or Murray. I believe it is marked with the Sowerby peacock trademark, but was not registered, or it would be better known today. Its rarity is probably just due to most ending up in the toy box.
It is interesting that it was not registered, as that indicates to me that JG Sowerby probably copied the design from another source — not one of those discovered by Simon Cottle. I believe the general concept is a spin-off from the English fairy tale
