Pink pressed glass bowl - maker or country of origin?
« on: November 02, 2007, 09:43:52 PM »
The downside of buying a nice Carnival glass plate at auction is the other stuff that you get with it!  Here's the first;

   http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-8621

22.5cm diameter, it is not as orange as the photo - normal pressed pink colour.  12 sides and it is heavy.

Any ideas?  TIA

I started with Carnival glass, then other C20 irridescent, then Whitefriars ducks, then Dartington FT Daisies etc, then Whitefriars Tricorns...when will it end?

Well I do have some ideas, but they are more what to do with it than who it is by.

And I don't think you would like them..... :ac1:
Thank you very much!

Possibly Czech. I have a couple of uranium pieces with similar edges. Is the quality a bit ropey? What the bottom of the bowl bit like?

You wouldn't be thinking of the recycling bin would you Lynne?  ::)

Christine - the quality of manufacture is quite good actually, though the glass does have several bubbles and a bit of frit or two.  The centre of the bowl is a slightly raised dome.  The underside of the foot is domed as well and the rim that it sits on has been neatly polished flat.  There are some visible ripples within the glass where it was pressed.  And since you replied I have just thought to run the UV torch over it - no glow.

cheers

I don't think I would go that far.  I certainly wouldn't have chosen to buy it, but when it comes in the same lot as a lovely, perfect Carnival glass plate what can you do?  Except try and find out what it is and find someone who would appreciate it more than you and I >:D.  Pamela???

No marks at all.

I've just been googling Abel and there must be a glazier by that name in every town in Europe >:D.  Can you point me in the right direction for the company you mean please?

thanks
