This is a bit of an oddity - a seven sided drinking glass.  It has applied decoration and a pontil mark with light scratch marks.

Any thoughts on origins, age, usage please?

not quite sure if it is an original - use your own judgement for that. Many museums sell replicas made by Royal in Czech or by Bon in Murano or by a specialised replica maker in Sweden; but the original would be 17th century drinking glass. Check for a little Alchemist mark near the pontil for Royal, or for a "bon" script near the folded rim.

Many thanks Ivo.  I will check it out tomorrow in good daylight using a lens.

It didn't strike me as being very old as there wasn't age related wear on the base, but the style looked old and I'd never seen anything like it before.  Not the easy of things to drink from I would imagine - not that I've tried ;)
