Topic: Bud Vase or not?

Believe it or not, i have just spent two hour's cleaning white gloss paint off this vase  :ac1: it is approx 10in tall, with large pontil, any idea of maker ? thanks in advance.

Hi Frank, yes i did check Pat's site, it isnt there, how do you define what a bud vase is? are they just for a stem with a bud, or just a single stem. this vase is quite large and would take more than just one stem, maybe a posy vase?

Paperweight vases are essentially referring to bud vases made by paperweight makers with a paperweight forming the base - not very sensible to use as a paperweight with water in

I would say Japanese.  If so then it would have a "cut" completely flat and polished base.  Not really a bud vase, but I would include this one on my site as it has a bubble base.  I would refer to it as a posy vase.  You can see a similar one in yellow on this site www.glassencyclopedia.com/bubbleglass.html
which also says it has a label saying made in Japan.

I am feeling very guilty as I have not put any work in on the site for ages.  Having moved just a year ago, the house has been in turmoil as all rooms needed decorating.  I have left most of the vases still packed up at my mother's house for safe keeping. I have also been having chemotherapy (now finished thank goodness), and various other operations and investigations going on at the same time, but I hope to start again in the new year. I've just got to find a suitable place to photograph them.

Stupid question here, but are both Sue C, and mine Japenase...or which were you referring to.  I also have a couple other ones too...more like Sue C...they are packed away...I will try to find them too to post, and was it Sue C a posy vase?  Then what is mine (be nice.....lol) called ?

In America, at least in relation to Tiffany items, "paperweight vase" refers to a regular vase shape but with a design element embedded in the metal a manner used for paperweight construction.
