A colored cup with Christmas colors!
« on: December 23, 2007, 04:41:09 AM »
I had some time today to practice with my camera.  I took some pics and, during the editing process, decided that this photo was very Christmas'y in color!  It is a custard cup, made by Phoenix Glass.  I am guessing around the 1920-30 era. It is three distinct layers of glass.  At the top rim, the glass varies between 2-3mm thick for all three layers combined!  The opal layer on the inside is not part of the vaseline layer and is a non-black-light reactive layer, not a result of striking the vaseline layer to a opal color in the glory hole.  So, there is Red, Green, and just a hint of holiday frost!  The handle is attached vaseline glass.  The reflection was accomplished by shooting this piece on top of a 12X12 inch piece of highly polished black marble.  The marble was purchased at a flooring store.
I Hope your Christmas is relaxing and safe  (even if it is hustle and bustle, try to be safe, esp. if you are on the highways!)

Experience teaches that anyone who begins to collect in any field can feel a change in his soul. He becomes a joyful man filled with a deeper empathy, and a more open understanding moves his soul.
