Topic: glass collection

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me of someone in the Wellington region who is expert enough and may be
willing  to help me catalogue my collection.
I am happy to pay for such help.

I have collected over 30 years, mostly in England  and have over a  hundred pieces. Some I have identified but much eludes me. I would like to do this so that my children have the information when they inherit.

Picture No. 4 is Isle of Wight Studio Glass. The pattern is called (surprisingly) pink and purple swirl. It should have either a broken pontil mark, or an impressed mark on a circular bit of glass that has been put onto the pontil mark, depicting a gather of glass in a flame, or perhaps  a mark that looks like it has been impressed with a the head of a coach-bolt. It dates from the early '70's, designed by Michael Harris.

Picture No. 7,
  top shelf, 3rd from the right,  a yellow and orange vase with swags is Swedish. (I don't know more than that)
  bottom shelf, 4th from left, looks very like Nazeing - it's the right shape. possibly the pieces on either side are too, but best listen to Nigel Benson on this matter.

Pictures Nos. 5 and 11 look like the same vase, I've no idea what it is but I'm jealous! :twisted:  :lol:

Picture No.8, You'd best listen to Frank or Nigel Benson, or other experts on this type of glass on this board, as this is not my area but it all looks very Scottish-ish. The bottom left looks like Monart, top left looks a bit like John Deacons (to my inexpert eye) and the middle piece at the back looks like Strathearn. However, I think this picture might be a bit distended and is a bit out of focus on my screen.

The last couple of pictures wouldn't come up on my computer.

edited to change incorrect number :oops: I've also managed to get more pictures, now. The green vase in picture 17 looks a bit like Loetz, but again, I'm not too hot on this sort of thing.

Edited to change numbers to fit with new layout.

Thankyou all of you, you are a lovely group of people. I am somewhat overwhelmed by the response!  Over the next few weeks Robert and I will try and sort things out by following your good advice. We will take better pics and post as suggested.

Anne, I will send the link to this site to my mother, who does like glass but does not know much about it. On the subject of that dark piece, I have no idea who made it!

Is that a signature I see on the bottom right of the vase in Pic. 11?? (same vase as pic. 5?)

 :? :? I'm also confused about pic. No 2! Two very similar vases, one signed J. Ditchfield '80 and the other Hadeland Gro.B.S.
While John Ditchfield of Glassform did make things in a very similar vein, particularly back in the '80's, at this time, as far as I know, every piece of glass he made was not only signed by him, but individually numbered.

I know next to nothing about Hadeland.

Left. Pale green, blue at top - Czechoslovakian 1930's-50's value from $30
Orange green & Gold - Monart Glass, value $200-$400

Middle. Green and dk red?
And Orange/brown?
Both  - Unknown Czech or even stourbridge value from $30 each

Right. Orange gold, possibly Monart, need better pic. value $200++
Dark coloured, possibly Victorian English, needs better pic.

Pic 10: The two mother of pearl vases are in the style of Pallme Koenig, but I don't know enough to say whether they are definitely PK or a copy. They look mould blown and the rims ground - and the trail added, after unmoulding while still warm?? :?:

17: Left - again, that strapping looks a bit like PK, but you will need an expert to confirm that.
