Oblong Cloudy Vase - Is it Powell?
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:42:01 PM »
I bought this over the weekend, an oblong vase with a cloudy interior, shading from blue to green. The rim has been ground and finely polished & there is wear to the base suggesting it has some age.

I have a suspicion it might be by Powell but haven't been able to find this shape so far. In my rush to photograph the vase I forgot to take measurements, I would guess it's about 10 inches tall but I'll check & update later.

If anyone has any more information as to maker, approximate date, etc. I wouldd be very grateful.

Thanks,
Steven

Looks a bit too bubbly and a lot thicker than the pieces I have had.

Thanks Frank, unfortunately I have no other Powell Cloudy with which to compare. The bubbles are not so obvious under normal lighting, but show up with the reflected light from the backdrop. Pictures 1 & 2 are most accurate in showing the colour.

I suspected Powell as the closest item I have been able to find in terms of colour and distribution of colours is the cloudy example shown here: http://www.whitefriars.com/decorative_treatments2.php

An example in virtually the same colours, shows better when you Zoom in on it.

Generally a fine glass with a ring when tapped. I have only handled half a dozen pieces before falling to the lower quality Monart

Hi,
I have just sent this post to a collector of these and he confirms it is 100% Whitefriars. Should be 5"x3"x8.5" high.
He would love to have a chance to buy it !
 Regards Patrick.

Intrigued as the thickness seemed so wrong to me although colours were spot on. If anyone else has other examples it would be nice to have them added to this thread it really is the most gorgeous glass.
