Topic: Blue satin glass Deer, Italian?

Believe it or not i had forgotten i had this :ac1: found it in the loft along side a Holmegaard piggy bank and a SI. AN. Italian covered dish.
Anyway, it is very well formed 8ins long and weighing 3lb 9oz, i have a feeling it may be Italian, but would like to hear any other opinions.

Thanks David, it is high quality and feels lovely, maybe i should pop it on Murano too?

Best to leave it here until it has been confirmed one way or the other. Other good makers of figurines are Czech, French, Belgian makers, to name three. The blue colour might be a clincher, but someone else is sure to know.

I wished the 'Murano' forum was renamed to 'Italian & Murano'!

I would say it is Murano. From the good form of the feet, it isn't one of the recent low-quality pieces. I have a gold horse that has a similar shape and legs. I've not been able to attribute the horse so far. A few companies that I know did animals lying down. These include Barbini and Archimede Seguso, but there are many other possibilities. I've posted a piece of my Murano horse that has a similar form. The lower quality animals lying down do not have shaped hooves. The legs just blend in with the rest of the body on bottom.

I suspect your critter is a ram. The form reminds me of Archimede Seguso's ram, which is lying down. It isn't exactly the same, but similar. I can see now why you called it a deer. The lines show up a lot more in the antlers of the vaseline deer. I think you're right about the type of critter it is.
