Nice mid morning find
« on: April 20, 2008, 11:52:28 AM »
Hi,
Can anyone identify this paperweight for me please?
I picked up a few nice glass pieces at the boot this morning and i think this was the best, I'd looked at this pitch 4 times before but I think this piece must been left in the car and brought out late. I really like it. There are no stickers or sig.

Cheers,
Bryn

Hi Bryn

It is a Murano weight. Nearly all weights with solid aventurine cores or grounds are Murano. I would guess from the 1980s, but I might be a decade or two wrong on that.

Thanks Alan,
Not bad for a £1. Not as good as my St Louis Pompom of a couple of years back, but still good.

Cheers,
Bryn

Hi Ray,
Yes, 2 years in May I think and so far I have resisted the money urge to sell it on it really is superb. best £7 I've ever spent. I can't remember what marriage certificates cost back in 1970!!!! :hiclp:

Here are the two paperweights together.

Cheers,
Bryn

The canes are a little different but based on the colors and finish I would say Fratelli Toso.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.
