Topic: Butterfly motif vase - Barolac?

I thought I'd be able to find information on this gorgeous vase easily, I assumed it was Barolac, although it isn't signed.  I've also had a shuftee at Desna and Hoffman, but I'm still nonplussed.  You'd have thought it would be an easy one to find, wouldn't you?   

It's a three part mould, 20cm high with an indented base.  I expect someone will see this butterfly vase and know it immediately...I wish I did!

Not Barolac, I'm afraid. It looks like a fairly modern item to me. I'd be thinking more along the lines of G J Durand/ Cristal D'Arques.

Oh dear, I've made a faux pas if it is!    The glass itself is clearer (if you know what I mean) that I would have liked...so maybe you're right.  If so it means I can actually enjoy using it at least!

Max, the finishing of the base is wrong for Barolac. Original Barolac pressed vases have an indented base & ground foot rim, see here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-9965 & http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-9964

The pattern also does not appear in the 1949/52 Glassexport Barolac catalogue or the 30s Markhbeinn catalogues (available from www.pressglas-korrespondenz.de)

I'm a glass failure!   

I've got a Barolac vase (flared top + roses, frosted) in the shed, and realised the base was different...but I was so sure this butterfly vase was class that I overlooked it.

I still can't quite get my head round the fact that this is probably a mass-produced piece of glass.  It's so darned heavy and well made, and I haven't seen another like it.   :cry: I guess you live and learn, thanks for your help Mosquito. x
