I wonder if he's a kookaburra rather than a common kingfisher from Europe - his beak is rather stubby

Agreed, not quite right for a kingfisher. Eyes in wrong place, maybe a Woodpecker, Kookaburra sounds good,
oyemicanto , where are you, could be a USA bird?

Agreed, Kookaburra.
Maybe Crown crystal, or were they just Carnival?

Hi,
Standard questions first, height in cms, please? will it take a circular lip/peg to hold it on a frog? or is there internal wear to the base indicating it stood on something? My prime candidate would be Czech, but I need this basic info.....
Arguably a centre-piece, minus frog and bowl.
Regards,
Marcus

Possibly, except only two varieties of kingfisher are generally found in Europe and N. America and he's a poor representation of either of those. And his beak looks too stubby for an insect eating woodpecker

Measures 15.5cm high, the base underneath measures 8cm across and is a sort of diamond shape. There is minor surface wear to base so could have been originally in a matching bowl? Now you mention it it is more like a kookabura so maybe this piece was Australian? Or made for the Australian market.I purchased this at an antiques centre in Glasgow,Scotland last year.

Hi,
Thank you. If Czech, this centrepiece would have stood on a frog, 45mm high and 135mm in diameter. I think this may be pattern number 1996, from Libochovice a.s. and would have stood in a matched 335mm diameter bowl, pattern number 1995. Frog and centre piece were supplied as one item. Anyone know of another possible European manufacturer??
Regards,
Marcus
