Topic: Smokey glass sherry-type glasses - ID = Caithness Glass

I've posted these before but the topic seems to have vanished (probably with the server hassles last year), so I'm reposting to see if anyone recognises these now please?  I'll measure them exactly in the morning when I can get to the cupboard they are in, but from memory about 4½" tall.

After a *lot* of searching I now have a result for these... CAITHNESS!  :hiclp:

Looks like there is two sizes and three two colours, peat, smoke and clear.  :thup:

I don't suppose anyone would know the pattern name for these...?

Sorry, I can't help, Anne, but I'd love to know too. :thup:
I have a small set of these sherry glasses in Smoke, and Caithness is not a maker I'd considered at all - just not Caithnessy, I didn't think, with the weird rim bit around the foot where it connects with the stem, and I thought they were a bit lightweight too.
Also, I see a lot of Caithness around and I don't see these often.
However, you've solved the mystery  and they're definitely Caithness! :clap: :clap: :clap:

Funnily enough, Sue, I found them at a time when everything else I picked up turned out to be Caithness with just these remaining a mystery... funny old world isn't it?

I wonder who designed them... maybe Wick Museum might have some info... I'll try dropping them an emai and see... it'll be useful info for Frank's Scotland's Glass site anyhow. :thup:

Have just had a reply saying...

I have checked our collection of Caithness Glass and have found your wine glasses.  We have two in smoke-grey and one in clear glass.  Unfortunately we don't have a lot of information about them only that they were made between 1961 to 1971. Perhaps you might be able to find catalogues somewhere but we were only given the display cases.

I'm just bumping in case Mark Hill has a name for this pattern, seeing as his new book is now out?  :X:  (I'll have to buy a copy as I seem to find loads of Caithness round here!)

No name, designed c. 1962 discontinued by 1972.
