Picked this up today at Ardingly quite late in the day.Unmarked but almost identicle to other Lions which do have the 1st Greener mark so most likely made by Greener, there is a picture of a similar Lion in Raymond Slack's English pressed glass book in vaseline glass.

What makes this Lion different to any other Lion that I have ever seen is the fitting to the head , it looks like the Lion was made as the base for a comport,  , I be interested to know if anyone knows of any further examples and exactly what fitted on top.

Height 6" 25cm

If he is any good for the Zoo please let me know Frank and I will take some more pictures

Thanks Roy

Hi Roy
It could for a comported top plate , or alternatively it could be a support for a lamp or light attachment
Check out this St. Louis Sphinx with a lamp attachment on this link.

On a close look to his lump on the head looks like a grommet or kind of screw would have held something in place?

Similar sort of peg to fit gravity held oil lamp ? Blue one has a lozenge 29th May 1872.
