Frank Thrower vase?
« on: July 30, 2008, 07:19:41 PM »
Hi Y'all,
I recently watched this Ebay listed vase, number 170241974617. The vase as you can see was listed as being by Dartington and carries the initials FT along with the date? mark for 77.
I was intrigued as, firstly, I know the seller and secondly I thought that if details were correct the end price might have been quite high. As you can see it failed to get a bid.
Does anyone who may have access to any recent publications on Dartington please cast some light as to whether it was a Thrower design, or whether the pattern is recorded.
Many Thanks,
Bryn

Frank Thrower never made anything and nothing like this appears in either book about him. His designs all relied on shape, one colour and texture, but not necessarily all three. Dartington design using more than one colour of glass were not by FT. Must be a different FT  ;D

Thanks Christine, that's certainly answered the question. I did think there may have been a link because I think I have had 2 Frank Thrower pieces in the past which had one of the colours on this vase but never both.
What other FT's do we know I wonder who were around in 1977.

Cheers,
Bryn

Lynne (Josordoni) posted a question on one of these vases not too long ago. I've got its twin as well, with a slightly more elaborate signature, which reads 80 (or 86), Zop or Zog, 0.902/D.

Thanks Cathy, that link makes interesting reading.
Hopefully I will be able to see the vase in question "in the flesh"  on Saturday when i visit the market where my friend sells his wares and check the FT sig' myself.

Cheers,
Bryn
