Tiffany decanter
« on: August 07, 2008, 07:42:12 PM »
I got this decanter in the mail yesterday. the stopper is marked tiffany and co manufacture sterling and some numbers
the overlay on the body has some numbers and another mark I can't make out. the glass base has a letter and some numbers.

the stopper and the decanter overlay both have monograms and they match perfectly in style and letters. I think they were clearly done by the same hand.

the problem.. the stopper doesn't seem to fit perfectly.

also the style of the stopper is different than the silver overlay ( that part doesn't concern me quite so much because it doesn't seem as if stoppers always do echo the same design elements of the silver overlay of the main body on older pieces)

opinions?

here we are  ;D

This is ours, obviously a common bottle 'overlaid' or better: cased in a silver 'net' which is plumbed at sides
Similarities?
Also regarding Far East provenance during 40ies?

no, it has a cut star on the bottom. the etchings on the base are hand done not pressed on. the bottle looks hand blown. It looks as if the pontil has been cut into a star pattern.

huh? did they do an ornate silver overlay with a star cut diamond on the base? in a quick google search I don't see anything remotely similar to my decanter from bols? do you have links?

I was able to find this from rago,

http://www.ragoarts.com/onlinecats/02.13.04_333/093.jpg

reading the description it's much smaller but the shape and neck look similar, although the silver overlay patterns and stopper are very different.

the rago one isn't tiffany or at least they don't claim it to be tiffany.
