Unknown "catch of the day" plus one
« on: August 09, 2008, 02:43:28 AM »
Sue and I headed back to our favorite horsey set haunts today in search of the ever illusive.  At our first moving sale, I could easily have dropped multiple thousands on Animalier bronze, save for the fact that I'm not in that tax bracket.  We did pick up two 8 " unsigned vases which according to the former owner are of Italian/Murano extraction.  The vases are heavily ribbed, with a flat ground and polished base showing heavy wear.  They may well be generic tourist ware, however, I find them quite attractive and suspect they are of a reasonable age, perhaps first half of the 20th century.

The second vase is a 6", highly iridescent, four lobed, unsigned piece and appears to me to have been blown from the lip - no pontil or evidence there ever was one.  Although it is not a complex form or particularly unusual color treatment, there is just something about this little vase that seems to say quality.  Sadly, my photo does not begin to show it's beauty.

Any help in pinning down an identification for our latest finds will be greatly appreciated.
