Russian Glass 1981
« on: August 14, 2008, 11:22:33 AM »
Just received a huge catalogue of Russian household glass, pressed, crystal, etched and engraved. Having painstakingly translated bits and pieces it does not appear to have a makers name. Would this then be a centralised distributor? If so I presume, as a lot of Czech glass, was sold in Russia it would also include imports.

Any thoughts?

Hi Frank,
certainly 1st picture looks very Czech, very similar to stuff in Marks book, from Mstisov glassworks,
have a look on this one which sold on ebay yesterday,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=230279767023
interesting price, i think that what happens with a positive attribution, i wonder what it would have
got without one?  Other shapes, very similar to your catalogue are in the book, colour and date
c1959 maybe a problem though. Also very similar are Zelezny Brod designs, in the book circa 1960s,
but im pretty sure that glassworks was in operation into the 80s, and im sure the experts on
here will give you more info. ;)

Hope these ideas help a bit
