I've been advised that it might be.  Any help in ascribing it would be gratefully received.

Hi and welcome to the board. Your pictures are rather tiny, just thumbnails, to see. Here's a link on how to post pictures, each one can be 125 kb http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,6522.0.html

Hi Sarah,
while you are working out how to do larger photos, have a look at these links,
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,22026.0.html
and Nigel Bensons website, several examples to compare to yours,

Hello Sarah, and welcome to the board,

As already said, the pics are a little too small to get the detail that is needed to give an informed opinion (I have tried copying them too enlarge, but they just pixelate). For instance I cannot see the pontil mark in any detail; since this is crucial to dating and ascribing Nazeing, that is a bit of a problem.

Also we need some sizes please, diameter across the top of the bowl will do, but anything else may help. If you can't get more detailed pics a good description of the pontil may well help, along with the measurements.

It is most probably Nazeing, but it is a question of whether it is from the post-war production, or, what is being referred to as Elwell era. Dating is a problem in any case, since details of dates are not known, only generalisations based on Geoff Timberlake' research and book.

Kind regards, Nigel

Hi Nigel - I bought some books from you I think about a couple of years ago - we met up in Croydon.  I hope these links are better.

HI Sarah,

Yes, I remember you. Good to 'see' you again  :)

The bowl appears to be post-war yellow Nazeing, confirmed from the shot of the pontil. If the diameter is about 9 1/2" it is pattern number 86/1.

Hi,

Hmm, the line drawings from the post-war catalogue says 9 1/2" diameter. Having started a process of recording measurements of, mainly pre-war vessels by Nazeing, I have found that a 1/2" discrepancy would be included as being referred to by the 9 1/2". In other words, there were quite wide tolerences, consistant with the pieces being hand blown.
