Paperweight with single flower 13 petals No markings
« on: November 20, 2008, 03:19:43 AM »
Hi, I'm very new here and hope I manage to post the pics correctly.

Paperweight is approx. 2 1/2" in diameter, 2 1/4" tall. Weight is 318g
Pink flower has 13 petals and 3 small green leaves at the base.
No markings that I can find.
I have no knowledge of paperweights other than what I have read on Google in the last 3 days!!

Any help with age or maker etc would be appreciated.

You have a thoroughly modern Chinese weight there.

Thanks Mark & Kari, hmmmm not a great start "modern Chinese" & I thought it was nice ;)

I resized my photos but they are are too big. I'm just trying to work out how to make the next questions pics smaller.

Thanks momma

Hi "momma" and welcome to the board.

When you have had some time to settle in and get used to the functions and features, you could use the search facility to check out the many comments and views on Chinese paperweights that have been expressed by others. You will see that although some people have regarded modern Chinese weights very negatively, others have pointed out improvements that have occurred in recent times. And, regardless of the differening general views about them, many people really do like those "Lily" weights - even when the clear glass is somewhat tinted. I have some examples of those type of Chinese weights and one is a magnum, footed Lily which, although the foot and stem are a bit "wobbly", is quite impressive.

As for the size of photos, there is no problem at all with the ones above. In fact, you can size them in terms of width and height to be bigger than 640 x 480 (but maybe 600 pixels is plenty bid enough for most images). The restriction is about Kb size, and as long as each image does not exceed 125kb, it is not a problem. Images larger than 150 pixels in either width or height get automatically resized as a clickable thumbnail which will either expand within the text area or be shown in a new window. (As per the Help info in "Tech Tips - Posting Pictures ...")

And well done for providing the three views, including the base. It really helps with Ids to give those views.

Kev, I read 25KB not 125KB maybe I need glasses. I did read the posting pics tips 3 times but each Forum is different & I'll learn.
I just entered another question and the pics may be a bit small!!
With paperweights it's certainly hard to take decent pics.
Thanks for your comments......momma

I like Chinese weights, particularly the 3 dimensional flowers like this one. I am less fond of Chinese millefiori but their lampwork is lovely. The main focus of my collection is Scottish but I will not pass up a nice deal on a pretty Chinese flower weight.
I collect Scottish and Italian paperweights and anything else that strikes my fancy.

Nothing to do with weights, but Fotosizer is what you need for changing the size of a lot of pics very very easily, and its free.  www.fotosizer.com/
