Last week, at the Uměleckoprůmyslové muzeum (Museum of Decorative Arts) in Prague, Janet and I saw a remarkable and important early Central European enamelled beaker vase, which I can't recall seeing in any of my books.
Cylindrical in shape, about 9" / 23cm in height, it features a beautifully coloured schematic view of the various stages of glassmaking. It's so realistic you think you can feel the heat from the furnaces! It's apparently some 300–400 years old, an amazing survival, and in brilliant condition.
Why it's not in every book on the history of glassmaking I don't really know.
So, if you go to Prague, don't miss it!
