Topic: Heart shape Scandi - help with ID please

I already have three (small, med and large) Holmegaard signed and dated heart shaped vases, but this one is without any ID.  It is 5" high and 6.25" wide approx.

if it looks like a holmie, talks like a holmie and quacks like a holmie - it must be a holmie! It is not the signature that makes a holmie a holmie; if the colour and shape are right then it has to be related.  If it were an obvious fraud you'd see differences in the bottom finish or the shape - besides, obvious fakes would be signed.

Isn't this a Per Lutken design?  (hey, I look like the Sensible One in this thread!  Wayhey!)   :lol:

My first thoughts on this was that is was a Per Lutken, but by comparison with the signed ones I have..
1) It is larger than my largest
2) Although larger it is less weighty
3) the base is more or less the same type
4) but overall it is not so "rounded"

So....do ya reckon it is Holmegaard, or did some other makers do something like this?

I ask, because I shall be selling this shortly and don't want to give it a wrong ID and I HATE to do the "bland" thing and say Scandinavian or sit on the fence and say Holmegard???

Compare it to this same size Holmegaard 'Heart' vase of mine http://tinypic.com/dhby10.jpg - the colour and shape looks right given that you have photo at a funny angle (can you photo straight on) as my only concern is the aperture size at the top - I think it is the photo angle

Other firms that made heart vases were Murano based, Iittala, etc - but I don't think they fit this profile - the Iittalia one is more squashed and the Murano ones are usually fully cased with sommerso -

OK so I have these vase in aqua to grey, from 2" to 7" (how many sizes did Lutkin do? not all are signed..........

I am not aware of any recent remakes of this vase - but look for tiny fine scratching to the ground flat base which shows age

On condition of a straight on photo I call this Holmegaard heart vase by P Lutkin - what is the Danish name 'Herveze' is that the right spelling?

Hi Adam...I'll have to do another photo but can't now until tomorrow. Yes it does look very similar to yours, although mine seems to have a slightly wider aperture.  Also,I have just realised that the base of mine has a ground and polished pontil of the Whitefriars variety,(whereas my signed  hearts are flat - although can't check as they are currently in a box)
 and as my knowledge of Per Lutken's work is quite limited that's why I am trying to find out.  Ok, I've seen loads of book and e-bay references on his stuff but the finer details you get when it is in your hands is quite different.
But I'll do the new pics tomorrow and look forward to your comments.

The aperture at the top is too wide I think for it to be by Holmegaard - I have seen 100s of these and never one with such a wide opening, also the glass does not seem thick enough in the right areas compared to mine

Combined with the fact I have never seen a P Lutkin 'Heart vase with a concave ground pontil - I would say it's not Holmegaard

Again just my opinion, could be an experiment, but the ground pontil - wow, where does that come from on one of these

Don't know if this'll help, but I sold something similar 3 years ago  - see pictures.





Looks similar.

15 cm tall, 22 cm long and 11 cm wide. The hole in the top is 3 cm by 14 cm Weight:1.5 kg

At the time I thought maybe Whitefriars, but I think after the sale (to someone in Netherlands I think) we concluded probably Leerdam.
