Is there a guide to drinking glasses size/use?
« on: February 11, 2009, 05:09:53 PM »
I've been trying to find an online reference to help me identify the use of lots of glasses I have.  I've never been overly sure on what size (capacity) and shape is for which drink.  Could anyone recommend either a website or book which could help me plese.

Thanks

Hi Chloe, I find replacements.com is incredibly useful for figuring out which size is what as well as identifying patterns. Maybe worth a looksee: http://www.replacements.com/crystal/manu/a.htm - it says crystal but it covers glass and crystal.

Discontinued designs also has some catalogue sheets which show which size is meant for what:

A 1977 Edinburgh Crystal catalogue is included here

This gives ozs & ml combined with the type of glass... all mixed up with vases but if you select sort by product name it will group each type of glass allowing you to see the 'range' of sizes for types... while some overall consistency there are clearly a lot of variations suggesting a certain arbitrariness.

Fabulous  - thanks both.  I shall start sorting them today and with the 'odd' ones I'll be back!
