Streaky/mottled glass vase, help please!
« on: March 01, 2009, 01:13:32 PM »
Hello all, having to have a good clear out as I have way too much glass, piling up everywhere! thought I'd check this one out before disposing. It's 31 cms high, width of rim 13cms and weighs1700gms.  I have no idea of maker but have looked at a few I.O.W vases and wondered. Any idea of maker and age much appreciated as always, GillX :D

Alum Bay, perhaps.
One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine. William Hartnell

Many thanks for all your responses so far, I've been looking at Alum Bay, Mtarfa and IOW and although I think they're all possible none of them look quite right `I must admit.  As far as age is concerned I don't think it's that new, depends what you class as modern I suppose.  I bought it at an auction with a lot of old glass dating roughly 40s to 70s, not that that's any guarentee of age of course. It does have some wear to the base but also it had an old sale price label on the base, this was clearly a 2nd hand sale label rather than a shop one and was certainly old and discoloured, again, no proof of age as such but I would guess 1980s at least.  Personally I still think of the 80s as modern and at my age seems like only yesterday!  Modern then.  Let's see what happens, I bet someone comes out with a definitive answer in the end, thanks again for your suggestions,Gill X
