Glass Mark 'British "Sawrex"' Help Please

Barbara — How about:

Stevens and Williams – THE KING

At the beginning of the '30s S&W were looking for a new name, and you may recall my suspicions about their trading in the USA under different names.

Just doodling, no real evidence.

Hi Bernard,

The glass is of good enough quality to be S&W, and they are lovely and large (get a real glass of wine rather than a mouthful).

I am listing all  the Walsh glasses tonight, so have a quick look!

Many thanks for your help again,

Barbara

Hi Frank,

Now two more with the Sawrex mark to add to the mix. Lovely quality again, and in with a real mix from 1780's right through to Stennett Willson tumblers, so no help with the dating I'm afraid.

Hi All,

Hope you had a great Christmas and will have a happy & healthy New Year.

Just thought I would bump this up as I came across two large and 12 small bowls with the Sawrex mark on them, but without the "British" bit this time

Were very handy over the holidays!

Hi Barbara, what lovely bowls!  Somehow the name SAWREX conjures up for me something utilitarian and clumpy, rather than such stylish glass.

May we add the image onto the board for future reference please as Tinypics tend to disappear sooner or later then we don't know what we were discussing. ;)

Hi Anne,

Please help yourself. They look cross between a Stuart and Royal Brierley design, and the glass is very good quality crystal.

I agree with you about the name, makes you think of test tubes and the like!

Super, thanks Barbara, I've added it into your post above for when the Tinypic gets munched. :)

POST TEXT:

Hi,

I am now the proud owner of five cut glasses which are etched British "Sawrex" on the base. I can't find anything about the name or the date of them, but they look 1930's and the writing is very similar to the "Richardson British" mark of the late 1930's.

Hope you can help,
Barbara
