Topic: Nils Landberg vase

I have a cased Nils Landberg vase with his full name etched on the base plus ORREFORS E% PO 299-56.

The bold letters are very faint and I am not 100% sure whether they are correct. There is a viking ship etched on the front of the vase, about 3cm from the base (see picture). Is this etching common on this vase? Was it done at the factory or later? I would appreciate any information you may have.

Just so everyone knows, in my opinion, Orrefors did not etch their glass. It was copper wheel engraved.

The work was copper wheel engraved involving an artist who works intaglio.

Sorry, I hate the term etched when it comes to Orrefors. They signed the work with an engraving tool or a tool most often done by an employee of the glasswork.

Ops, they are not acid etching the signatures of Orrefors on the work.

special quality for exhibition. If you google you get tons of them, and that should also get you a price idea...

I believe the ship to be one of the Swedish cavedrawings. ( Målerås made a series of paperweights depicting various drawings )

Interesting. I was going to ask whether you were sure the designer was Landberg and not Palmquist, but the numbers on the bottom are the correct numbers for Landberg.  My question stemmed from the fact that I've a small light blue sommerso vase with the exactly same ship engraved on it, also an Expo piece, marked Orrefors Expo PU 37 -55, designed by Palmquist a year earlier. Was it common for different designers to use exactly the same image? I've attached a picture of my piece. Apologies for the quality but it's a little late here in the far West.

My understanding of Expo is it was "art glass" produced outside the usual factory run. Each designer was given his own number series, which also identified the year. The pieces weren't necessarily shown at an exhibition.

Sorry about the photo in the previous post. You have to take my word that there's an engraving there. Here's a slightly better picture which shows the engraving a bit more clearly, and clearly it's the same design as on Carlo's Landberg vase.

I am not sure I made it clear, but my vase has the full NILS LANDBERG signature on the base as well as ORREFORS EXPO 299-56. And yes, the viking ship is exactly the same ;-)
