Help ID this mark on enameled satin glass
« on: March 17, 2009, 08:51:36 PM »
Was hoping someone might be able to identify this mark.  The satin finish is nicely done. more peachblow coloration than the pics show.  Nice enamel decoration.  Measures 10", 4 1/2" in diameter.

Thanks in advance for any help.

it has been the issue of long discussion and speculation in each and every glasss forum for the past 20 years. But no one has been able to identify the PK mark yet....

Ivo,

As a newcomer, thanks for the reference to past discussions.  I'll try to find something in the earlier posts.

Is there a leaning sentiment as to whether this is a Bohemian or British product?

Again, thanks for your informed input!

In reviewing the previous posts, the consensus was that, despite an erroneous thread referencing Pairpoint, the vase is Bohemian.

However, no attribution to a particular factory or decorating company was made.  Any new input would be very much appreciated.

I don't think we have any new input, but as it pops up commonly in the UK and is only significantly different from other painted Bohemian vases in that it is signed (although I did see one with 10 on it yesterday) I would go with Bohemian. I think that PK was a refining company rather than an individual, as the one piece I have handled, although of adequate quality, was nothing like this piece. In addition, the bases seem to vary, which implies different glass manufacturers. All this is just my thoughts.

I cannot add anything except maybe a humerous observation. At a show in January of this year I was talking with an art glass dealer & he had a couple of these PK vases. Anyway he said "PK right?" & I said yeah...then he rotated the vase...and he said "Presto...now its AVI". We had a good laugh over that. Ken

Its definately not Durand Kimball. This type of glass is nothing like Durand Kimball & this was discussed a couple of years ago on the board in a lengthly post as i recall. This is a Bohemian style while Durant Kimball is American art glass. I doubt that we'll ever know who/whom/what PK stood for.

I found one of the PK posts from a couple of years ago pertaining to the Durand Kimball discussion.
