Topic: Vicke Lindstrand / Orrefors LU154 Decanter

Just wondering if anyone knew the approximate production span of the LU154 service decanter pictured below? McConnell gives the initial design date as 1936, and this is corroborated by the model numbers listed in Ivo's book, but no mention is made of a discontinuation.

Any help gratefully received.

I'm looking at the pictures of LU154 service in the 1936 catalogue but the decanters portrayed don't look like yours at all,they are much taller. :huh:

How peculiar. The base is very clearly signed Orrefors LU154 /1.

Actually, I may have been reading Ivo's book incorrectly (I was very sleepy-tired last night) - from his list it looks like U154 would relate to a 1933 design, rather than 1936. Or possibly I'm reading it wrong with my wide-awake head on too. I get easily confused by complex production codes.

it may be under Orrefors marks, other.  U154 is the end of 1933 - hope that makes sense?

Hi i have the same decanter mine is marked    o/ f  then underneath L U 154 / I . But the last I has a small / on the top  maybe the tool slipped .jp I hope this makes sense . :huh:

Curiouser and curiouser..
Swedish Glass Factories shows your decanter, (long neck, lozenge-like stopper, fairly stubby body) in clear glass with the mark LU154/8 on page 85. The catalogue is from April 1934
It doesn't appear again as far as I can see    either in clear or frosted in the LU 154 series. Perhaps someone with  sharper eyes can help..

If it's not hidden away within the catalogue pages then I suppose it's possible it might have been designed in 1933, along with the rest of LU154, but not put into production until years later...?

I can think of a few Holmegaard designs where that happened - sometimes with decades in-between design and the production line.

Not all the catalogues are in the book;in the foreword, it says "The idea of publishing the most important production catalogues issued by Sweden's leading glass manufacturers.."
You could try contacting Smålands Museum in Växjö as they have the majority of the original catalogues.
