Kingfisher Blue Elephant. ( Did Ray put ears on any??)
« on: April 19, 2009, 02:58:55 PM »
Wandering around local antiques fair, saw this elephant, having recently seen some of Ray Annenbergs WF
Hefalumps, i had a close look, decided it was unlikely, so went home.
I got home and decided to look for Whitefriars Pachyderms, and found some, of course , by then i couldnt remember what the one at the Fleamarket looked like  ::) But i thought it was similar, so printed out a photo,
and went back to the fair, worth another look ! (luckily only a few miles away).
This one had ears, so its a bit different, after returning, the stallholder knocked a few pounds off, she thought i was very keen to have returned, so i didnt like to say no! so it came home with me.
However, sitting next to a Kingfisher Knobbly vase, colour seems completely identical, and quite a few similarities in style and shape ( well! its an Elephant  ;D  ) so i thought id ask
Patrick an easy Question.
Did Ray ever put ears on an elephant? Were they in Kingfisher Blue?

If anyone else has suggestions ,and i know there may be loads of possibles, please let me know.
Good Hunting

Hi Andy,
Beautiful elephant ...............  So near but yet so far !

The Tail is wrong, the ears are too defined, the end of the trunk is wrong and a few other things. But I would have bought it !

Here is a pic. of those you saw at Bourne End.

All best wishes, Patrick. :) :) :)

Virtually every glassmaker I've seen working in recent years has an elephant in their repertoire (and a duck and a swan, for that matter).

Unless marked (or well known, like Ray's WF heffalumps) they're nigh impossible to identify.

Thanks Patrick and Chris,
I knew the odds were extrordinarily long !!  but that colour comparison had me thinking it was worth
asking the question!

Best wishes, and hope to make it to Birmingham,
Andy
