Topic: Internal spiral vase

I'd welcome any thoughts about this one please.  Handblown with an internal spiral in the heavy thick base, which then extends upwards, but very faintly, to the thick rounded polished rim.  Nice optical illusion seen where the spiral is reflected in the bottom of the interior when looked at from an angle, but not shown in the pic.

How tall is it? It looks very like a Gunnel Nyman Serpentii vase. The smallest size stands about 7 1/2 inches and isn't signed. The mouth of the vase is thick and polished, as you say, and cut at an angle. As well, the white spiral does reflect in the base as you also observe.   The white spiral usually continues to the top with no fading. Nice find, if it is.

PS I just took a photograph of mine and put it next to your photograph. Now I'm not so sure. Mine seems to have more bulbous at the base. Maybe it's the angle of the camera. I've added the picture FYI.

I can see that the sides of yours curves in more towards to bottom whereas mine is slightly more upright.  Mine is 8½" high with a base diameter slightly less than 2", and 1¼" diam. at the rim (approx. 600g).  I've taken a pic. of the base.  There are no marks unfortunately.

I'm having more doubts now. The smallest size of Serpentiini (the correct spelling this time) is 13 - 15 cm, and this is the only unsigned size. The next smallest size is 34 cm. The base should be perfectly flat with a chamfered edge. Also the spiral doesn't look quite, only three wraps before fading. All that nudges me in the direction of a copy.  I'd keep looking, though, as I never fully trust myself. Designlasi.com is a great place to start looking. A later edit: I looked at the examples shown on Designlasi and the Corning Museum of Glass sites and the ribbon of white on them is very close to what is on yours, except that they don't fade before the top of the vase.

There is one of these in my  local charity shop (Cornwall) with a Woolworth's label but no clue to where it was made.

Just adding a picture of the one in the charity shop so that you can make your own comparisons. I agree with you Anne - it is a very nice looking vase and feels nice too. I wouldn't cry Anne - only reason I didn't buy the Woolie's one is because hubby was with me and I keep promising to Ebay some of the stuff I don't display or use before I buy any more glass.  .

I thought I would add mine to this thread for searchers in the future :0  Although not identical  Mine is remarkably similar    dimensions are as per Anne's vase.

I seem to remember that in distant past searching I came up with Scandinavian (Matt someone? who used to work with Gunnel Nyman maybe?) as a possible however I am now wondering if they are from Poland perhaps?
