Topic: Davidson 6283 trinket set

Hello,  I bought this beautiful blue Davidson trinket set on the carboot yesterday. I've not seen it in this colour before, is it a later set? Should it have a ring holder and large lidded pot or would this be the complete set? I don't want to waste time looking for the other bits if they don't exist  Its in near perfect condition and one of my favourites due to the lovely colour.       Any help welcome.     Thankyou  Cheryl.

Hi Cheryl,

Normally seen as a seven piece set, see here for the sizes: https://www.glasstrinketsets.com/cms3/english/davidson/6283-s - there was no ringholder in this set.

I've not seen that colour before either so can't tell you how common or otherwise it might be. Chris Stewart may be able to tell us more about it if he pops by.  May I use your photo as an example of this colour on the Trinket Sets website please?

Forgot to say, I have a cakestand in this colour as well which hasn't been id'd as yet, so this might be a clue to its origin as well.

 Hi Anne,  yes you can use my photo, It really is a nice set.  I was looking at a Davidson cloud glass website which has this set on it, it says they started using clear glass colours after the war. According to this site my set is complete, the other set has the tall candlesticks.   Its amazing its in such good condition as the seller chucked the whole set in one bit heap in the bottom of a flimsy carrier bag!!!  I suppose one mans rubbish is another mans treasure as they say.  cheryl

Oops! how did that manage to sneak in there? I've no notes for a ringholder for this so I need to change that page.

Re the set, the 283 pattern formed the basis of several sets with different nos of pieces. There was an 5283 set which had 5 pieces (normally seen as tray, two candlesticks, lidded pot, pintray), and an 6283 which was an 6 piece version (tray, pintray, two short candlesticks and two small lidded pots), and the 8283 which had 8 pieces (tray, two pintrays, two short candlesticks, one large lidded pot and two small lidded pots.) Not a ringholder amongst them though.   Yours will be the 6283 set.

Cheryl - Would it be possible to show a close-up of the rim of the tray, please, and a rough idea of the thickness of its base and whether that thickness is (again roughly) the same all over?

Hi, I hope this is the picture you wanted of the rim.  The base starts off quite thick about 7 or 8mm round the outside, it gets thinner towards the center of the tray where all the points of the pattern meet.

im not being pedantic,  just thinking of future searches,  :angel:

Thanks for the info, Cheryl.  It was just technical interest as some of these, but I don't think all, were made by what Davidsons called (internally) their "stamper" process but I can't make up my mind about this one.
