My parents, bless them, got me this quite pleasant dish from a charity shop because they thought it would sit nicely in my collection. As with most well-meaning gifts, it doesn't go with anything I own!

But it would still be nice to know a bit more about it, as it's not something I know anything about. It's well-made, nicely coloured (much more purpley than it turned out in the pics), and has a pretty encased twisted bubble helix doodah going on in the stem.

Any info would be great, thanks!

Any idea on date, roughly? There's very little wear to the base - but it could very easily have lived its entire life in a cabinet somewhere. I suspect it's not very old, but what do I know?

I would guess it has spent the past 40 years on a dressing table with cotton balls inside - nothing too strenuous.

Ive got an opaque blue coloured one like that. I found out that the lid was missing. It's a bad habit of mine to buy things with lids or stoppers missing. :oops:

Now that I know what it is I can throw it away now. Thanks for the space. :lol:

That's interesting Ivo – I see from your little book this was V.Nason; but isn't it 'Opaline Veritable', or is 'VNC' a different brand?

I also believe V.Nason closed around 2000, but can anyone confirm this?

Vincenzo Nason Cie. = VNC all right, and I' m sure he used a variety of labels, including Opaline véritable and Opaline de Venise. I am unable to confirm the rumours re his closure.

That was a bad picture, it looks more green than blue.

Actually, that reminds me of something. I saw a huge vase in a charity shop yesterday and it was an opaque blue and white on the inside. It also had glass moulded onto it which spiralled upwards towards the rim. The stripes had the same colour as the glass foot on my thing above) . The rim (if thats what you can call it) had two sharp points facing upwards. I think it was Italian.

But I left it and bought a Murrano decanter with no stopper. :oops:
