question on saint louis weights
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:32:17 AM »
Hello,

Does anyone know in which year has Saint Louis started to inscribe the item and issue numbers on the back of their paperweights for limited edition paperweights?
I have tried to find everywhere I could think off with no avail.

Many thanks.

After 1987 (I have a 1987 Alhambra LE with signature/date cane and no other markings).
I also have a regular 1991 flower with signature/date cane that does have the SL logo etched on the back.

So I would guess somewhere in the period 1988-91

Thank you for this useful pointer, Alexander. I thought it was around this period too.

If there is anyone out there with limited edition St Louis weights from the years 1988, 1989 and 1990, it may provide the definite answer.

Hi Sophie

I am not sure that there is a simple answer to your question - it may depened upon the design.

For example, in the case of the Saint Louis honeycomb design weights (which were not made every year) editions for 1990, 1997, 1999 and 2006 have the acid etched numbers. The ones made in 1973, 1974, 1988, 1989 and 1991 are only numbered on the certificates. So if there was a move to label all the weights it was after 1991.

Hi Alan,

Thank you very much for this.

And I thought this would be simple and straightforward...
