Is this Whitefriars?
« on: June 29, 2009, 08:58:21 PM »
Hi
Can you help me ID this vase, I thought it might be whitefriars because of the bark effect, but not sure about the rectangles in it.
Thank you
Vickie

Vickie, would you initially post queries in Glass please? Once we know if it's a British item then one of the mods will move it over for further discussion. Thanks!

Very nice piece. That looks like neodymium glass to me, see here

Is that base rim ground?

Reijmyre is one Scandinavian company known to have used neodymium

Most bark effect is NOT Whitefriars

Hi,
I have taken more pictures of the edge of the vase. The base of the vase is shiney all over and the centre has the sort of bark effect. The corners are rounded, I'm not sure what you mean by ground? hopefully you can tell from my pictures.

I meant has the base been smoothed on a grinding wheel? Like a pontil mark but round the edges. A smooth pontil mark is created by grinding and polishing. Sometimes moulded items have had their bases ground as part of the finishing process, either round the edges (the bit that stands on the table) or occasionally all over. But it doesn't look to have a rim on the base at all, just a straight out of the mould flat(ish) base.
