Greetings from Canada.

This is my first post here and I am hoping that some fresh eyes might help me ID 2 pieces of glass that I recently acquired. I have them posted on my blog and if you wouldn't mind taking a look, I would appreciate it. They appear on the first page with details included.

FYI. My blog is purely for people who share a similar interest in Bohemian glass and Van Briggle Pottery. It is not for the purpose of conflicting sales.

Hi Mac, and welcome to the board. I would be surprised if the second piece is not a Kralik piece. Although I have not seen the piece before, it screams Kralik to me. It is really a delightful piece of glass.

I do not really know about the first piece. It is unlike anything I am familiar with.....  It is stunning though.  I have been to your site before, from a link at another site if my memory serves me correctly....  I was following links at various Bohemian glass sites and landed at yours....  As a matter of fact, I have it bookmarked.

Do you know Alfredo?  He would be one I would show the image to...  If you don't I could copy and forward one to him from your site  to get his opinion....

Hi Craig.

Thanks for responding. I agree with you on the second piece looking like Kralik, that is what attracted me to it, but began have 2nd thoughts because to date I haven't seen anything like it.
I have been in touch with Alfredo (very nice guy) and his best guess was  "a piece commissioned by Bakalowits of Vienna but finding the maker may be difficult". Other suggestions have been Fritz Heckert or Kolomon Moser.

I had a vase with a finish similar to the rocket vase. I was not able to attribute it to any specific company. I thought it might be Josephinenhutte or perhaps Heckert, but there were a few other possibilities suggested to me. Your vase is more distinctive and certainly nicer, so it may be easier to track down.

Hi Mac,

Although I have not seen anything like the Kralik piece before, I have also found through the years that their output was so varied that nothing surprises me by them anymore. Their furnace decorated pieces are quite unmistakable....

I recently identified a piece as Kralik I had researched as an organic form English Victorian vase for years, and on a whim sent an image to Alfredo. He had a Kralik vase in his collection that made an attribution to Kralik undeniable....

The second I saw your piece that was my reaction to it... I personally, would not doubt that attribution at all.

The large piece is an enigma.....  I personally would not think it was Heckert based on the work of theirs I am familiar with....  Additionally it would surprise me to find it to be Koloman Moser, and not be known immediately, being such a distinct and massive form....  That being said, Koloman Moser did do designs for Bakalowitz in 1901, designs that were produced by Loetz.  I do not know if records of those designs exist or not.

What ever the origin, I am green with envy on this one.... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
