Pink vase with small bubbles. Help to ID required please.
« on: July 14, 2009, 06:15:02 PM »
I have had this vase a few years now and still do not know who made it. It is pink in colour and stands 8 1/4 inches (21cm) high with a diameter of 5 1/4 inches (13.4cm). There are wear / age scratches to the bottom. I have included photos of the bubbles and pontil mark.
Thank-you,
Dave

Hi there
i may be completly off the mark, but it looks a little similar (the bubbles and polished pontil) to a couple of Erik Hoglund Boda pieces ive had.
all the best
michelle

Perhaps 1930s Walsh Walsh Pompeian with that large pontil mark

Thanks for the info, I would like to think it was Walsh Walsh from the 1920/30's.

Hi Dave,

I notice that the surface of the vase is quite shiney, and therefore it is unlikely to be Walsh Pompeian. Rather more likely I think you'll find that it could be S&W or Haden, Mullet & Haden, but no proof, sorry.

(A very delayed ) Nigel

Pompeian looks shiny in the Walsh book and pink was one of the colours. What should the surface look like?

I would have attributed this simple vase to an unknown Polish, Baltic or Romanian glassworks - it would not occur to me to set this piece into the thirties.

I'm not convinced. Finely distributed bubbles in glass do not point at a specific maker per se. It has been done by most glass makers at some time - including Bor, Boom, Lambert Germany, Leerdam and who knows who else. This photograph shows one from Reijmyre.
