Topic: Millefiori paperweight Murano with flower on white ground

Hi there
i picked this little Millefiori paperweight up a couple of weekends back.
It is made from a clear glass done with a central white ground Millefiori edge in green white and yellow. The central white ground has a large flower with a C in the middle of the flower head (possible part of the design maybe a maker/designer??)
The only thing ive managed to find similar is on page 10 of the millers  Paperweights of the 19th & 20th centuries a collectors guide which says the picture is "transfer prints". The weight in the book is by Ferro & Lazzerini. Although mine is nowhere near the same quality picture as the one in the book the millefiori looks very similar
The weight is made from reasonable quality glass, the millefiori canes a very coggy and chunky. The base is flat smooth and very well polished. I dont think it has any real age to it maybe somewhere in the last 20 years max
anybody confirm or think its something completly different? it only cost me £1 so it wont break the bank if its chinese :24:

My first thought was Ferro and Lazzarini too. Those coggy canes are similar to Fratelli Toso but not quite. FT's had more 'teeth'. They are just like some in a weight I got 16 years ago brand new bearing the label of "La Fenice". I think that is the name of an importer.

After looking at a millefiori egg in my cabinet which I know to be Ferro, I've gone back to my first thought. Your coggy canes are a lot like one in the egg.

So Ferro and Lazzarini is my best guess this point. Age of about 20 years seems about right as it fits my 'La Fenice'.

Yes i did see it John, i would say most definatly the same maker as the lady one.

also i had a Webb Bronze vase identical to the one you have listed and up untill today had no idea what it was, i sold mine about 8/9 years ago for £10 so a bit gutted now :cry:

Hi Michelle,
I see you posted this a long time ago so you may not get to read this but I know exactly what your paperweight is!
It is a Mazzega commissioned by the bank Child & Co  to give to their customers in about 1973/4

The flower is a representation of the sign which hung outside the bank from about 1690 where Francis Child traded at "ye sign of ye Marygold", the C in the centre is for the family name Child.
