Nachtmann vase any idea on age??
« on: August 18, 2009, 11:14:00 AM »
Ive never really been a fan of Nachtmann, but when i saw this vase at the weekend its kinda changed my mind a bit. It has concave facets with a band of cut ruby around the centre. The base is polished with a perfect circle in the centre also well polished. It does have a sticker althoughpartly worn, which is gold with silver writting NACHTMANN BLEIKRISTALL ORIGINAL ?UNST-HAND ?RBEI?. It does have a reasonable amount of wear to the base
would anybody have any ideas on age for this piece?
many thanks
michelle

hi Michelle,
i can´t help you with the age of this, but may i fill your ??? with K A T (unless there´s
more than just one letter missing for each ´?´) ?
so it should say: ´Kunst - Handarbeit´, which means: ´art - handwork´.

I'm still trying to find a resource for dating older Nachtmann pieces myself, as I've acquired a fair number of them by now. It's not in the current catalogue.

Looking at the style of it, it should be art deco 20s-30s at the very earliest, and 70s at the latest. This style was still highly popular in the 50s, probably continued well into the 60s and 70s. I don't think it's 80s or later.

Hi there
Im struggling to even find a sticker the same as this one. Ive been looking through as many pictures of stickered pieces i can find and kind of guessing from style of the glass and sticker as to the date.
Even the writting on the sticker looks dated i would guess at 1930's/40's
Here are some more piccy's including a close up of the sticker, a really beautiful piece and very well made.
cheers
michelle
