Opalescent Blue Glass Butter Dish
« on: August 18, 2009, 01:46:53 PM »
This is a stunning piece, and seems overly lovely for a butter dish.  The base is EPNS with a makers mark [J][H] and the glass is quite thick.

People who've seen it in the flesh all seem to agree it is very good quality, but no-one has any idea who it might be by.

Any help appreciated on this.

I don't think there were that many companies that made blue pearline: Davidson and Greener both did. I would perhaps lean towards Davidson on the basis of colour. I think Greener blue pearline was much bluer. I wonder it was a special order to fit the stands.

Scroll down this page http://www.cloudglass.com/Gallerypostwar.htm for a much newer but similar square dish. Shame we can't see inside
