Is this green cased duck Murano please?
« on: August 18, 2009, 02:25:09 PM »
This is a beautiful quacker, I still haven't gotten around to purchasing one of those lights, but think this could be uranium, it seems to glow in the sun.
It stands 7 inches to the tip of its beak and measures 5 inches across from wing-tip to wing-tip.
An idea of how much I should ask for it and if it is Murano would be a big help, I'm in the dark for more than the need of a bulb!
Thanks
Tina

Tina,
I've got a pair listed on ebay right now with very similar colouring, both mine have original murano labels, have a look and see what you think.

Thanks David, found them, mine is similar around the eye and the beak but otherwise different, tuquoise and green. I took it out in the sun for a minute and I'm sure it's now greener.

I only took him out for a minute!  Sorry to hear it David, we're having a lovely sunny day in south west London.

Tina, taking him out in the sun wouldn't make him go greener and stay greener!! He is cased with uranium glass but the effect is NOT like luminous watch dials. The green glow only shows when UV light is shining on him. Take away the UV and the effect is gone. Your second photo effect is probably due to the amount of UV in the flash you used.

Have a look round this site for more info www.vaselineglass.org/

He's almost certainly from Murano, but I doubt you'll find a maker. Every one and his dog made/makes birds on Murano. David's are not uranium-containing to my eye.

What amazing photo's on that site!  Sat on the sofa, ducky was in the afternoon setting sun,
I'm not sure if the flash was on, could be that's why he looks all aglow
Thanks again for your help, appreciate it.

Afternoon setting sun is very good for showing off your uranium glass - full of UV rays at the right angle
